EXPLORING THE GENRE: Argument

Dharanish 1. How is the genre structured?
* Introduction: One paragraph that briefly but clearly states the context, the question, and your position on it.
* Body: Support for your position for the most part, with one line of argument in each paragraph. An opposing argument also gets one paragraph and one line of argument all to itself--which is followed by a direct response to the opposition.
* Conclusion: Summarize your argument, and talk about what must come next, now that your particular position has been proven.
* Bibliography: At least 5 sources.

Dharanish 2. What is the length of the genre (in this class, anyway)?
3 1/2 to 4 pages.

Rakpong 1. When the writer has chosen a side to support, does s/he also give a reason why s/he doens't support an opposing argument?
Yes, the person needs to address opposition arguments directly. The reason(s) must be based on research, but an explanation using an example can be added.
