my writing process

Probably all of us in this room were taught to do brainstorming before writing some type of essays, reports, and etc. At least, I know I was. Even though I was taught that way, I'm not used to start writing from brainstorming. It just takes me more time to start wrting. So instead, I do outlines, but somehow I skip this step very often also and go straight into writing out actual paper even though I know that I write better with outlines.

As I start writing, I begin facing my biggest problem of writing, the thesis statement. Introduction part always has been the most problem to me. I would always get stuck at the introduction and spend probably the most time writing along with my second problem, the conclusion. Body part was not a problem to write if I knew what I had to write about and had right information. Introduction and the conclusion was the bomb through out my writing process.

Lack of variety in using vocabularies is another problem I have when writing. As I write my papers, I have to go back and find some words on Korean-English dictionary since I think in korean as I write and sometimes the words in my mind wouldn't come out directly in English. To give some variety in vocabularies to my writing dictionary and thesarus are the must have for me.

If I get stuck in the middle of it and don't know what to write anymore, I start reading off from the beginning and think about what the next sentence should say. I also make some corrections as I read it out. The next one that I found it difficult to do was keeping the tense consistent. I would always go back and forth on present and past tense. Most of my English teacher had comments on that inconsistency. And it was very difficult to fix and probably I'm doing it now too!
