EXPLORING THE GENRE: Literature Reveiws

Does the literature review have to follow the intro-body-conclusion format like other type of writing?

Yes, it does. "Intro-body-conclusion" is a very generalized format that can fit everything; it's what constitutes those components (especially the body) that varies. See information on the structure of literature reviews for more details.

How should the writer reword the quotes that are used on the literature reviews?

The writer should usually paraphrase, and use direct quotations only when the original author said something in a particularly interesting way. In either case, the paraphrase or quote must indicate specifically where the information came from.

Who might engage with the genre - that is, who is involved in producing writing in the genre, and who might be involved in reading/using writing in that genre?

Anyone who wants to research and let people know about the topic and what s/he had come up with on it will write in the genre. As for reading and using the genre, others who are doing research on the topic will be interested; based on the writer's review, they will look for--or avoid--particular sources. Also, anyone who wants to find any information on particular topic that they are looking for and do not have time to look at original sources will read and use it.

What are the goals of the people engaging in the genre - that is, what do the writers and readers want to get out of the genre, and what might they do with the new knowledge after reading?

See answer to previous question.

What genres do you know that are similar to this particular genre?

Book reviews, movie reviews, restaurant reviews, and hotel ratings with reveiws might be similar to literature review. All of these things, like literature reviews, feature summaries/descriptions of something, followed by a judgment on those things.
