1). What could have started the riot? Was it because of the economy or due to the four dead Trisakti students?
Economy, I believe that the cause of the riot was because of the economy as the corrupted government have caused the price of food to be very high
2). What is the motivation of the riot? To force the corrupt government to see the sufferings of the people or was it to kick the chinese out of the country?
To force the Chinese out. If the purpose of the riot was to just let the government see what is going on, the Chinese will not have been targeted and killed.
3). How should the military have tried to stop the riot? By giving their soldiers weapons such as tear gas,guns,etc, or by asking them to hold a curfew?
I think that a curfew will be better and this action actually works during a racial riot that happened in singapore a 40++ years back.

Much better questions, although you should tweak one of the options in question #3: no one would believe that the military handing weapons to rioters would help to *calm* a riot. Once you're done, raise your hand so I can check.
